Manchester Saudi Students’ Multidisciplinary Conference in the UK 2024

Under the patronage and support of the Saudi Arabian Cultural Bureau in London, this platform enables Saudi students, researchers and professionals in the UK and KSA to collaborate across disciplines on real-world challenges identified in Saudi Vision 2030, fostering innovative and comprehensive solutions.

Date and Venue

The conference will be a full-day event on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

It will be held in the Nancy Rothwell Building at the University of Manchester.

Call for Abstracts

Submission Period

Call for abstracts opens on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 and closes on Friday, December 6, 2024.

Submission Guidelines

Abstracts should address one of the key themes listed below and present how different specialisations can work together to tackle these challenges. Submissions from varied backgrounds (Science, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Law, Humanities, Medicine and Health Science … etc.) are encouraged to propose diverse perspectives within a theme.

Evaluation Criteria

To select high-quality abstracts for the Conference, submissions will be evaluated based on originality, alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, and interdisciplinary collaboration potential.

1. Originality

Novel ideas or methods that introduce unique insights or innovative problem-solving approaches.

2. Relevance to Saudi Vision 2030

Clear alignment with Vision 2030 goals, with practical or policy implications for Saudi Arabia’s development.

3. Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Potential for integration across fields, promoting holistic solutions and collaborative approaches.

4. Impact Potential

The research should demonstrate applicability to real-world challenges, offering meaningful contributions to current knowledge in the relevant area.

Conference Themes

The themes address pressing challenges in Saudi Vision 2030, encouraging researchers from diverse fields to collaborate on comprehensive solutions:

1. Water/Energy Nexus

This theme addresses the interlinked challenges of water scarcity and sustainable energy demands in arid environments. Expected proposals will explore sustainable solutions through technology, environmental science, policy, and finance, showing how fields like engineering, law, and environmental science can contribute to resilient water and energy systems.

2. Financing, Building Technologies and Governance for Vision 2030 Mega-Projects

This theme focuses on developing sustainable financing models, governance structures and technologies for large-scale Vision 2030 projects. Research is invited from finance, public policy, , science, engineering, and economics to present innovative funding strategies and accountability frameworks that support long-term project sustainability.

3. Healthcare Accessibility and Quality Improvement

This theme explores expanding healthcare infrastructure, accessibility, and service quality, especially in underserved and remote areas as well as advances in medicine and medical practices. The abstracts under this theme are expected to foster collaboration among healthcare practitioners, technology experts, policy analysts, and social scientists to address healthcare gaps and propose solutions for equitable, high-quality service delivery.

4. Workforce Development for a Diversified Economy

This theme discusses preparing a skilled workforce for emerging industries beyond the oil sector, with an emphasis on education reform and vocational training. Abstracts are encouraged about research from education, psychology, digital innovation, and human resources to develop pathways for building a resilient, adaptable workforce ready to meet Vision 2030’s economic diversification goals.

Attendance

General attendance at the conference is free for all participants, providing open access to sessions and networking opportunities.

Poster Presentation

Poster presenters are required to pay a £20 deposit, which will be refunded upon arrival at the conference. This deposit secures their poster slot and helps cover any organisational costs.

The conference will take place at the Nancy Rothwell Building at the University of Manchester.

The opening ceremony and the oral presentations will be in Lecture Theatre A 2A.040.

The poster session will be in Event Space B which is located at the south entrance of the building on the left.

Parking Information

Attendees can use the Manchester Aquatics Centre Car Park (also called: Booth Street East car park), which is the nearest car park to the venue for visitors parking.

Nearby Accommodations

In case there is a need for accommodation, Hyatt Regency Manchester can be utilised which is on campus within 5 minutes walking distance from the venue. Other hotels in Manchester city centre can be utilised. However, early booking are highly advised.

Travel Recommendations

For attendees travelling via train, Manchester Piccadilly station is the closest station. Then, buses 147 & 205 can be taken towards the conference venue.

For attendees coming via Manchester Airport, an airport taxi or other similar services are advised to arrive to the conference venue.
